The New Urban World Journal (NUWJ) exists to engage in faith informed academic reflection on our urban world. With a particular focus on promoting the voices of urban activists, leaders, academics, and practitioners living and working in the majority world (global south).

The New Urban World Journal has been in circulation since 2012. Starting as an expression of the International Society of Urban Mission (ISUM), a Christ focused network of organizations focused on the urban poor. The journal was handed to Urban Shalom Publishing in 2017. Now, in 2024, the journal is being restarted as a partnership between Centre for Building Better Community (CBBC), Bakke Graduate University (BGU), and Urban Shalom Society (USS). We see the journal and the topics covered as a reflection of God’s desire for shalom, modeled through the life, work, and pattern of Christ.

An article in Volume 8, Issue 2 (2024) entitled “Urban Shalom Society (USS): Advancing God’s Vision For Flourishing Cities” explores the history and contributions of USS to urban mission.  Trailblazers and pioneers in urban mission is the topic of that particular issue. Read the article (pg. 45)
